Eric Andersen already has years of journalism experience and a strong knowledge of the business environment and marketing strategy. He has done freelance work for Des Moines’ Cityview and Off Deadline magazine, in addition to writing for the alumni magazine Iowa Journalist.
During the summer of 2009, Eric began writing for the Arts & Culture section of The Daily Iowan (award-winning college newspaper) where he learned to shoot video and write compelling stories for both print and the web. Within a year he moved his way up from reporter, to assistant editor, to editor in the summer of 2010.
As editor, Eric managed a staff of writers to plan daily content, a weekly 80 Hours standalone events section, and more. Other job duties include editing stories for grammar, style, and clarity, holding weekly meetings every Sunday, hiring reporters, and writing one or two articles a week.
Don’t let The Daily Iowan’s status as a college paper fool you, it is REAL work, that is more hands on than most beginning full-time reporter gigs. Time management is a key skill in balancing school, the newspaper and life in general.
Eric has six years of on-air radio experience broadcasting on the independent stations KRUI 89.7FM in Iowa City and KDPS 88.1FM in Des Moines, Iowa.
Finally, Eric has held a variety of part-time jobs all while maintaining a solid GPA and writing for publications that range from Blockbuster Video (Customer Service) to Bruegger's in Iowa City.
Currently, he is working as a sales associate at Best Buy in Des Moines, Iowa, while he sends out applications to workplaces across the country and tries to figure out what the future holds.
